Welcome to my website
Six years with a domain and an email address. Now, somewhere to show my work and say something of my own.
I registered laont.me on June 18, 2020.
I’ve used it for email for years, but never had a website I was happy with. I always wanted one. Somehow, I never got around to making it right.
Now I have a more practical reason to finish it: I’m looking for work.
Why now
Applying for jobs has been frustrating. I don’t want sending more applications to be my whole plan for finding work. A CV can tell you where I’ve worked, but there’s little room to explain what I actually did there.
With AI, I feel more pressure to have something of my own: ideas, projects, a way of approaching problems. Being able to do the implementation doesn’t feel like enough to distinguish myself anymore.
I want to work independently, build things of my own, and find people I can work with directly.
This website gives me somewhere to start doing that in public.
Somewhere to explain the work
Much of my work happened in private repositories. Even when code is available, it doesn’t necessarily explain what the problem was or which part I took responsibility for.
Here, I can connect the companies I worked with to the products we built, then write about specific pieces of that work. A story can be small: an integration that needed a different approach, or a bug that only appeared when two things happened at once.
I also want that experience to be easier to find. If you’re interested in payments or infrastructure, you should be able to look at the relevant stories without going through my entire history.
You could even give the site to ChatGPT and ask what I’ve worked on that’s relevant to your problem, and what would be worth asking me about. That’s something I would find useful when trying to understand someone else’s experience.
I’m thinking of this as personal context: somewhere the work and the writing can sit together, instead of asking people to assemble the picture from LinkedIn, GitHub and a CV.
And somewhere to write
I also want to write about how I work and what I’m trying, including questions like the ones that finally got me to finish this site.
I’ve had an email address here for years. Now I also have something to tell.
So, welcome. I’m Stanislav. You can look through my work, read what I publish here, or tell me what you’re working on.
